The Point, a triannual Newsletter, will share with the broader CCNY community insights from the research conducted by The Intersect Lab at The Psychological Center. We hope to stimulate future collaborations and community feedback. Each issue will feature a short synopsis of student and faculty work and will highlight collaborations across the various research programs our lab is conducing at The Clinic. .

This issue presents research from the Therapeutic Alliance Assessment Project, a short-term psychotherapy research program at The Psychological Center. In addition, we provide a summary of recent COVID-19 related studies.

This double issue presents studies emerging from the child-oriented services at The Psychological Center as well as ongoing studies related to the COVID-19 experiences and psychological sequelae among a CUNY students.

This special issue summarizes data collected by the INTERSECT Lab in the context of COVID-19 across six CUNY campuses from April 8 to May 2, 2020. The findings document levels of psychological distress as well as the interactions between social factors, pandemic-related stressors, and the psychological experiences of CUNY students.

This issue of The Point considers the community served by The Psychological Center and the various reasons individuals seek psychological services. In addition, student and faculty work is presented that seeks understanding about how the multiplicity of identities of both our patients and therapists may interact throughout the treatment process.

The first issue of The Point spotlights effort to better understand the psychotherapy process as a whole. We want to understand what it means for therapy to “work.” How does psychological improvement occur, how is it measured, and what are the initial factors that might predispose certain therapists, patients, and relationships to positive change?
